How to Spot God's Fingerprints

We were about to leave, so I grabbed the cleaner to wipe off the fingerprints our 18-month-old left on my in-laws’ mirror. From behind me I heard my father-in-law protest, “Do NOT touch that! Those are precious finger prints from Crisann – leave them!!” Our toddler, his first and only granddaughter, who was the apple of his eye, was leaving. He wanted to keep those precious prints on the mirror. He loved her so much and wanted to remember her by the fingerprints smudged on the otherwise pristine mirror.

Believers leave God’s fingerprints. A wise Bible study teacher with a missionary’s heart explained to me that because we are ambassadors of our Lord, a hug from a Christ follower given in encouragement and love leaves the fingerprints of God behind. She continued, saying that she imagines the angels can see God’s fingerprints on His children. Angels may see them, but astute believers can uncover God’s fingerprints, too. They are a constant reminder that God has been there and is at work around us.

Amidst the noise of our lives, we yearn to be captivated by the splendor of a God Who desires to make our souls sing with His joy. Routines guide us, but sunrises inspire us. Schedules drive us, but cool breezes refresh us. Calendars organize us, but a baby’s laughter rejuvenates us. Craving these poetically invigorating moments entices us to zealously search for God’s fingerprints.

Pull back the curtain. Let the warmth of the Son shine in and together we will let the fingerprints of God begin to conduct the symphony in your soul.
