Step 1: Meditate on His Word
It is simple. Just start! Grab a scripture – your favorite, your friend's favorite, or my favorite. But do grab one!
Try John 15:7: “If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
Be prepared to devote time to mediating on the scripture. I use my walks, morning routine time, driving time, even evening grocery shopping time to focus my thoughts on one scripture that is tucked in my pocket and my heart.
Repeat it with various words emphasized:
“If you REMAIN in Me and My words REMAIN in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
Consider what “remain” means . . . to remain like a spot on a garment, a scar, a tattoo, footprints in wet concrete, images in your mind, a memory in your heart. To remain means to last, to stick around, to stay for a long time, to not fade away, to be permanent.
Repeat this exercise with other parts of the scripture like: “words,” “wish,” and “done.”
This step could take 15 minutes or more.
Step 2: Pray His Word
Pray His Word for yourself:
Lord, You say if I remain in You and Your words remain in me, I can ask whatever I wish, and it will be done for me. Help me have that faith. Help me remain in You, that I will be asking in Your will so that my desires align with Yours.
Pray His Word for your loved ones:
Lord, help my husband to remain in You and Your words to remain in my husband, so that he can ask whatever he wishes and it will be done for him.
Pray His Word for your not so loved ones:
Lord, help “her” to remain in You and Your words to remain in her, so that she can ask whatever she wishes and it will be done for her.
Hissing this one is acceptable -- the first time. Ask for the power of the Holy Spirit to see her through His eyes and love her with His love, and eventually you can sincerely pray this prayer for her.
Note: It could take a bit.
Step 3: Act on His Word
While you were meditating and praying, what did He say? Were you listening? If you didn't hear Him, repeat steps 1 and 2. He will speak. When He does speak – act on His Word.
It will take courage to listen and boldness to act, but it will ignite the symphony in your soul. Are you supposed to make that call? Or start that project? Or leave that relationship? Or take a small step to improve your health? Or write that apology? Or stop being the conductor and wait on the Lord to start the symphony?
Be obedient.
Die to your desires.
Abide in His word.
Mediate on it. Pray on it. Act on it.
And then let the symphony of your soul begin again!
