How to Tap into Real Power

Superman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, the Flash, Batman, the Green Arrow, Ironman – these superheroes capture even the most mature imagination. Have you ever considered what super power you would want?

As a mom of four children, I want to be the Flash to finish all my homeschooling, teaching, parenting, volunteering and household responsibilities more "expeditiously." I would add Jean Grey's telepathic and telekinetic powers -- so I could control everything and everyone to influence voters, balance the national budget, eliminate greed, fix the world's ills and get my feet rubbed every night!

Well, what if you could really, truly in everyday life have a super power?! What IF you could have a super power?!! Would you accept it?

There is a power that can be at work within us, given to us by Him Who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. (Eph 3:20) The third chapter of the New Testament book, Ephesians, contains the apostle Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians to be strengthened with this power so that Christ may dwell in their hearts through faith and that the Ephesians may have the power to know the love that surpasses knowledge.

 Super human speed, telepathy, and telekinesis are trapped within the colors of a comic book, but we can honestly have REAL power! What joy! We can have the power to live in faith, and the power to know God’s love. Out of the glorious riches that God has, He will strengthen us with power! (Ephesians 3:16)

For over 17 years, I have had the joy of tapping into the power of the Holy Spirit.  I can attest to the fact that this IS the power that helped me walk the long road of the terminal illness of my mother-in-law, to endure the grief of burying both my in-laws, to be continuously stretched in parenting through homeschooling's trails and tribulations, and to love even the most prickly of people.

It is this power of the Holy Spirit that sanctifies me daily in small ways like reminding me to talk less and listen more.   It provides a contentment in my heart with circumstances like our twins being away at school even though the quiet house is a brutal reminder of their absence.  This power bring a joy to my soul at waking to peak at the orange sunrise or catching a glimpse of the purple and pink sunset.   It is a power freely given, and paid for at the cross.

If you yearn for REAL power to walk through trials, to be stretched, sanctified, content and joyful -- it is within your reach! If you want to tap into the grace and love of Christ, it is as simple as A- admit you are a sinner, B - believe that Jesus is God's only Son and C- Confess your sins to God.  Accept Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit is the gift of believing!

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:16-21
